Privacy Policy

In short: Aster does not collect, sell or share your personal data. The app talks only to the Jellyfin server you sign in to, and that server is run by you or by someone you choose.
Who we are
Aster Media Player ("Aster", "the app") is developed by TODO: your name or company. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at TODO: support email.
What the app stores on your device
- The address of the Jellyfin server you connect to.
- The sign-in token your server issues. It is kept in the system Keychain TODO: confirm Keychain. Aster does not store your password.
- App preferences, such as playback and subtitle settings.
This information stays on your device and is removed when you sign out or delete the app.
What is sent to your Jellyfin server
To browse and play your media, Aster sends requests to the server you connected to. Those requests include your sign-in token, your device name and type, and playback progress so the server can resume where you left off. That data is handled by the server's operator under their own policies. If you run your own server, that is you.
What we collect
Nothing. Aster contains no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs, and it does not send any data to us or to third parties.
If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may provide us with anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. We use these only to fix bugs.
Third-party content
Artwork, metadata and theme songs shown in Aster come from your Jellyfin server and the plugins installed on it. If your server fetches metadata from outside services, those requests are made by the server, not by the app.
One exception: a disc menu can use a background image hosted elsewhere, such as The Movie Database's image server or another web address chosen by whoever made the menu. When you open that menu, your device loads the image directly from that host, which sees your IP address like any website would. TODO: confirm the app loads menu backgrounds this way
Children
Aster does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13. Parental ratings and access limits are managed in your Jellyfin server's user settings.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
